Driving North on the 395 From Los Angeles gains you access to some of the most magnificent scenery in California. You'll pass through the town of Lone Pine, which is the home of Mt. Whitney (highest peak in the lower 48 states). You continue up through Bishop and really start gaining elevation as you get near the town of Mammoth Lakes, home to Mammoth Mountain, a snow skiing paradise.
